(Amazon 5-star review March 2013)Brilliant Book. This covers all things “Syn-full”;. A wealth of background information, and a real prod to read the Scarecrow stories again. Very highly recommended.
(Amazon 5-star review December 2019)A good analysis of the Dr Syn books by Russell Thorndike and the films which have been
made from them, along with the history of smuggling on Romney Marsh and the geography of the area.
(Amazon 4-star review January 2021)What a wealth of information, history, biography and general trivia is packed into this book guaranteed to give great pleasure to any fan of Dr Syn.

(RW May 2017)The book gives an insight into how important the traditional pub has been to the community as a general meeting place as well as a venue for functions like weddings, auctions, sporting matches and indoor games. Priced at £15 this wide-ranging book is good value.
(Rye News June 2017)Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed your thoroughly researched and entertaining
book. Every CAMRA branch should have one!
(MN September 2020)I’ve been reading your book and found it most enlightening regarding the history of Marsh pubs.
(PC September 2017)Excellent book
(SW April 2017)I have read quite a bit [of the book] and shall be inspired to go on a crawl this summer (or a bender depending how many l get round!) l am so glad it all came to a successful conclusion after all your hard work. The result is terrific and a credit to you.
(JW April 2017)It’s a fascinating read and very well written
(MC April 2017)This painstakingly researched book should be acquired now by any lover of the area! – In my opinion possibly the best account of Dungeness through the ages highlighting the life, history, make up of the area with dozens of photographs, many hitherto unpublished, with
contributions from locals, anecdotes and a wealth of information all written with great authority. Well worth a read and at £15.00, including post and packaging an exceptional
addition to any library.
(Dungeness UK)This 200 page book, complete with lots of photos, is very good value at £15 to anyone who
has the slightest interest in the area.
(The Looker Jan 2020)The book is full of fascinating information about Dungeness and the reasons why it is such a unique, magical and special place.
(Rye News Jan 2020)Just to say your book arrived today, thank you very much. Fascinating stuff……I look forward to reading it when I can wrestle it back from my husband!!
(KW May 2020)This I think is the first book devoted solely in any great depth to Greatstone and Littlestone and it has been compiled and written by Keith Swallow. Some of you might recall Keith’s previous books, ‘Much Drinking in the Marsh’, which was a history of the pubs and breweries of Romney Marsh, and ‘Nanny Goat Island’, a comprehensive look at Dungeness.
For his latest book, Keith has delved into the history and development of Littlestone,
Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea. This 216 page book, complete with lots of photos, is very good value at £15 to anyone who has the slightest interest in the area.
(The Looker April 2021)I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with this book. So often local history books can be pretty perfunctory but this is an absolute joy! My parents and I are currently fighting over it.
The photo of the sound mirrors made me buy it, it’s fab. You’ve absolutely made my day
thank you
